On 17 November 2020, we have the pleasure of inviting Dr. Peter Schmidt (RIT Croatia), who is going to give a Seminar session on Business Taxation and Financial Decision.
Corporate Finance and Capital Budgeting tell us that the net present value (NPV) is a good criterion to pick your investment portfolio. Different investment alternatives will be subject to differences in taxation, yet tax effects are often disregarded during the decision process. Common sense tells us that taxes do affect the investment outcome, and therefore they shouldn’t be ignored. We will explore how NPV calculations can be expanded to include taxes and discuss the underlying assumptions and limitations – in an attempt to make better investment decisions.
Dr. Peter Schmidt holds advanced degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA and from the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen, Germany, where he obtained his doctorate in economic sciences. In 2011 he returned to academia as a faculty member of the Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia (RIT Croatia), at the institute’s global campus in Zagreb. He is currently senior lecturer there, teaching accounting and international business courses. His dissertation examined design issues of value-added taxation, and he has published in the area of taxation and cost accounting.
