Participants of the Youth for Water and Climate Programme visited our Faculty
The international participants of the Youth for Water and Climate Programme visited the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics on 9th February 2022. Twenty young water and climate professionals from Sweden, Slovakia, Belgium, France, and Hungary spent a week in Budapest where they attended exciting lectures, workshops, site visits, and networking events as part of the 8-month capacity-building programme.
The Youth for Water and Climate Programme aims to support young professionals in acquiring transversal and specific skills which are essential in the water and climate sector. The initiative offers in-person workshops, a mentorship opportunity, support in finding an internship, a community of practice, and a complete online curriculum to support the development of professional skills and/or entrepreneurial skills in the water and climate sector. Teaching and research colleagues from our Faculty were also invited to join the international programme as mentors for the participants.

The programme’s first offline workshop took place in Budapest between 6th-12th February. The young professionals visited our Faculty where they were welcomed by Orsolya Barna, the International Coordinator of the Faculty. Dr. Gyula Zilahy, the Head of the Department of Environmental Economics and Sustainability presented the relevant research topics and projects of the Department. Anil Poyraz, a Ph.D. student of the Doctoral School of Business and Management gave a short introduction to his research results about nature-based solutions in urban water management.
After their visit to Budapest, the young professionals will continue the programme online and will meet again in August 2022 in Sweden at the closing workshop of the project. The intiative is funded by the European Union’s Erasmus + Program, L’Agence de l’eau Artois-Picardie, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the agenda has been developed by the partners of the Youth for Water and Climate Programme.
