More than two dozen students as would-be graduates have attended a series of two occasions where they were given invaluable information about the know-how and key points on how to write their theses.

For the graduating students, the two English-language sessions were held by Nóra Wenszky, PhD, Associate Professor at the Centre for Modern Languages (INYK) of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences (GTK) on 10 and 24 March respectively.

The events included interactive parts and lectures. Style and structure, proper language usage were some of the key elements of the first comprehensive presentation and the subsequent discussions on 10 March, while the second one two weeks later aimed at making students familiar with literature and bibliography issues, strategies, paraphrasing and citations in theses, among other subjects.

The second part of the course presented information about plagiarism and showed examples on how to avoid its traps. Referencing, compiling a bibliography and some punctuation issues have also been discussed. Several online tools helping students write research papers were also on the agenda on 24 March.

The seminar has given a big helping hand for students writing their thesis by showing them how to develop their academic writing skills and highlighting the differences between academic and non-academic writing.

Given its success and popularity, the seminar may be held again in the next academic year.
