The SEFI (European Society for Engineering Education) conference at the Technical University of Barcelona attracted more participants than expected. Most of the 459 participants came from European universities, with Hungary represented by seven. All but one of the participants were from BME, including Vince Balázs Nagy, PhD, Vice-Rector of BME, Vice-Chair of SEFI and Co-Chair of the 2022 conference, Mária Szalmáné Csete, PhD habil., Vice-Dean for International Affairs of GTK and researchers from our and the Mechanical Engineering faculties.
The slogan of the conference was “Towards a new future for engineering education” covering more than a dozen topics – among them several interdisciplinary themes that are related to our Faculty including sustainability, project-based and challenge-based education, women in engineering, transversal skills, the role and opportunities of industrial companies in engineering education, and artificial intelligence in engineering education.
The researchers from GTK gave several presentations at the event. Heléna Krén and Beatrix Séllei, PhD gave a presentation entitled “Engaging leaders from the students’ perspective – university lecturers as role models”. Orsolya Barna and Mária Szalmáné Csete, PhD habil. presented their study with the title of “Integrating green competences and skills into Hungarian environmental engineering education”.
SEFI offers a prominent role in the ongoing scientific exchange of ideas through the so-called Special Interest Groups (SIGs), which cover a wide range of topics. The SEFI Podcast will be launched, focusing on the activities of the SIGs.
