AACSB Insights article: Teaching in the present tense
A new AACSB Insights article highlights an increasingly important challenge for business schools: preparing students not only with technical skills but also with capabilities that can be transferred to unfamiliar and rapidly changing business situations.
While AI tools can already perform many analytical tasks, they cannot easily determine which theoretical framework is most relevant when a problem is unstructured or unprecedented.
The article introduces the CART framework (Concept, Application, Reflection, Transfer), a teaching approach that combines theoretical models with carefully selected business news stories. Students first learn a conceptual lens, then apply it to a current business event, critically reflect on its strengths and limitations, and finally transfer the same concept to a different context. This repeated practice helps develop judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to connect theory with real-world challenges.
