Global Focus article: How accreditation can support, not burden, constrained institutions

2026.06.03.

Executive summary. Higher education institutions face growing financial and operational pressures driven by shifting income sources, rising costs and demographic change, among others. In response, many universities are reshaping strategies, prioritizing digital infrastructure, internationalization, and accreditation by globally recognized institutions. Although accreditation can be demanding and resource-intensive, it offers significant strategic value when approached thoughtfully. Accreditation frameworks support learner success, employability, data-driven improvement, staff recruitment, and academic relevance. They also strengthen internationalization by signaling quality, enabling global partnerships, and supporting new revenue streams. Used strategically, accreditation can help business schools enhance resilience, build trust, and drive long-term transformation in an increasingly uncertain global environment.

Global Focus is the EFMD Business Magazine that provides in-depth analysis and updates on international management development and features topical reports, thought-leadership and insight from leading experts from academia, business schools, companies and consultancies.

At BME GTK, accreditations are also considered a key pillar of institutional quality and international recognition, reflected in our active EFMD membership and BGA Silver Member status, among others.
